Montreal, Quebec — The Quebec City-based ad agency, Cigna, has made its move from advertising to social media, announcing that it will become the first ad agency in the world to make use of social media for its business model.
The agency announced Wednesday that it would start offering free and ad-supported accounts for its clients, including the likes of Starbucks, Walgreens and Burger King.
The company’s new accounts will be able to post to Instagram and Twitter, but will not be able, for now, to post directly to Facebook.
Cigna’s ad-serving platforms are based on Facebook’s advertising platform, Ads by Design, and the new platforms will let its clients choose from a range of ads and other products.
The move by Cignas marketing arm comes on the heels of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announcing plans to sell his stake in the company to his son, Eduardo, for $2 billion.
Cignass plans to buy back its own stake in Facebook in 2019.
Cinéma, a Montreal-based advertising agency, is the first company to have its social media platform fully integrated with Facebook, and will offer its clients an ad-free, free and mobile-friendly experience.
